Harvesting

With a modern fleet of machines running the latest technology systems we aim to provide the best service to our clients. We carry out contract harvesting for various managing agents, Forestry England, sawmills, private landowners and marketing companies.
We also buy standing timber that’s due for thinning or final felling using our knowledge of local and nationwide markets to secure maximum returns for clients.

RAC Forestry provides professional timber harvesting services nationwide, offering expertise, efficiency, and a commitment to sustainable forestry practices. With a modern fleet of machinery and a team of skilled operators, we ensure that every project is completed to the highest standards, delivering maximum value for our clients.

Whether it’s thinning, clear-felling, or coppicing, we tailor our services to meet the specific needs of each timber crop, maximising yield and profitability.

Clearfell

We at RAC Forestry aim to maximise volume and profitability from the final felling of a timber crops life. With the latest machines running up to date technology we are able to carry out such operations whilst minimising the environmental impact. All our operators are fully qualified and trained to use the optimising software in the machines to gain the most from a crop.

Thinning

From first thinning to final thinning we have machines to suit all stages of your timber crop’s life. Thinning woodland can be a delicate and skilled operation. Whilst needing to maintain a healthy and stable crop we endeavour to avoid any harvesting damage using the appropriate machines and experienced operators.

NEW Thinning:
Thinning is a delicate operation aimed at maintaining the health and stability of a woodland. From first thinning to final thinning, we use specialised machinery suited to each stage of a crop’s life. Our operators carefully manage operations to avoid harvesting damage and support long-term woodland sustainability.

Coppice

A traditional way of harvesting hardwoods, usually Sweet Chestnut, Hornbeam, and until the advent of Ash Dieback disease, Ash. This form of harvesting leaves the original tree stump to sprout new growth for harvesting again in the future. We are using machines to do some of this work but also maintain a small team of motor manual chainsaw operators to work in more sensitive areas.

NEW Coppicing:
A traditional method of harvesting hardwoods such as Sweet Chestnut, Hornbeam, and Ash (before the advent of Ash Dieback). Coppicing leaves the original tree stump to sprout new growth for future harvesting. RAC Forestry combines modern machinery and traditional chainsaw techniques for effective coppicing, even in sensitive areas.

Biomas and Wood Fuels

At RAC Forestry we have a wide range of equipment suited to harvesting low grade timber specifically for biomass and woodchip production. This product can be for commercial or domestic use. Previously neglected or unmanaged woodlands can often be brought back into some form of production for biomass. We also endeavour to recover residue where possible from our commercial harvesting sites to supply the commercial biomass power generation industry.

New Biomass Integration
At RAC Forestry, we strive to make the most of every timber crop by recovering residues for biomass production wherever possible. By integrating biomass harvesting into our timber operations, we support renewable energy markets and ensure nothing goes to waste.
